Listen to Shirley Singing the Poem in English Jan 16, 2010Listen to Shirley Singing the Poem in Chinese Jan 16, 2010Follow Shirley to Read the Poem & Chinese CharactersLearn the Meaning of the Poem With Shirley TogetherSee Shirley Created Picture for the Poem Jan 09, 2010In China's culture, we call plum blossom, orchid, chrysanthemum and bamboo as "four gentlemen", for we appreciate their excellent qualities as the gentlemen who have some wonderful personalities. :-)
I like all of them and I more enjoy bamboos, I feel that bamboo is not only the symbol of the straightness, honest and modest as a gentleman, but also, I enjoy its beautiful feature as a girl... I mean that a bamboo is straight like a gentleman with a fair quality; be empty inside like a person who is always with a modest quality to learn from the others; be easy to live anywhere like a person who is easy to get along with...
That is why, in 2006, when I introduced the poem
Ting Zhu -- the Bamboos in the Garden by Tang Dynasty (618 - 907) Liu Yuxi (772-842). I could not help creating a piece of music to match it and sang it.
Then in 2007, I corrected my translation and re-wrote the music.
In 2010, last weekend, I created two new paintings to match my own music and the painting... this week, I created 11 little bamboo paintings…:- ) and on Saturday, I retranslated it and sang it in English and in Chinese first time.
I really hope that you enjoy my comments about this poem, my music, singing and painting for this poem. I really hope that my effort will be some help of you to learn Chinese culture and Chinese language...
I had introduced some poems by the same poet and hope they are help to know more about this poet... :-)
