Innovation,Giving Up & Down to Earth -- Shirley's 64th Friendly Greeting Sun, Nov 19,2006

How are you? Did you have a good week? I do hope everything is well with you and had an easy weekend.

This is a busy week. Anyway, except my daily work in the company, I keep reading something about some greatest companies for learning their management experience, in my Saturday and some nights.

After reading something about Toyota, Intel, BMW, Airbus and Coca Cola, a word jumped into my mind: ? Innovation. Innovation should be the life of a corporation. All of these companies just keep their innovation, keep creating their new productions, new services and new marketing styles; then they can really keep being their No. 1 positions in their own fields and industries. Yes, our company can jump on the top place in our totally new industry, also relies on keeping innovation and create continuously.

Anyway, when I read something about Intel and General Electric Co, I do feel that a company should not only keep innovation with its current products, but also it should have the courage to give up something that is tending to decline or not being the main business. If Intel did not give up something that it had created at the first time and to open some new land to create its new products one by one, it would not be the No. 1. in its current field. If GE did not give up its insurance business, it would be still troubled by many things that not relates to its main business...

Another thing, that has been touched me so much, is that I do feel that a greatest company and good example is just around of us ? that is just Wal-Mart. This week, three mornings, I could not help to stop my running steps to ask a young boy, sometimes a young girl who was in a red T-shirt of Mal-Mart and stood by a road to record something in his/her little notebook. What were they doing? Why they stood by the road in the so early morning? He/she told me that he/she was doing two things, one was to tell people how to go to Wal-Mart, for there are too many roads and sometimes their customers could only see their building and did not know how to go there. The other thing was to record their customers numbers via this road. Wal- Mart's working time in Shenzhen is from 7:00am to 11:00 pm.

I was so touched for their so detailed work and high quality service consciousness. I do feel there are so many things that are worth for our company to learn. Now, I am thinking why Wal ? Mart is the No. 1 of Globe 500? Maybe we should organize our managers to go there and to learn something there someday? We are working in different industries, but, something should be same I guess.

Are you interested in reading your professional books, magazines or data online? What is your opinion about these great companies? How do you think of their success?

I am just a learner on art, music, English and the work on the web site in my free time. Anyway, I would really like to do a little bit things with what I have learned to make this little web site to beAn Electronic Bridge Of Culture Exchange, Friendship, and Language Learning. During the process to help the others and to improve myself.

I do appreciate your understanding, directions and supports. I do hope to get your great help continuously now and in the coming time...
