I knew Dr. Wenping Qiu in a meeting between Hainan University and Missouri State University in May, 2009.
Then we had talked something about delivering Chinese culture into the other cultures via phone call in 2010. However, then, I did not even make sure his family name, so that I have been calling him Dr. Xie. :-)
Until this year, I read something about the Missouri State Fruit Research Station in the Address of 2013 of the President of Missouri State University, I called Dr. Qui and wished to interview him as the author of my new book -- My American Stories.
Then I got the good treatment of Dr. Qui and his Wife Lisa, with so much sincere, they invited me to have a dinner, go to their church and also offer me Bible lesson...
With a lot of respect, spent whole of the Monday, I went to his work place in the Mountain Grove to interview him.
Just for finding out why the latter could overcome the virus, Dr. Qui and his team have worked on it for 4 years.
Now, their research result and the technology of cleaning virus have been used in a small area as a test in America, and also be delivered to the new grape plant area in China. This research project in Missouri State University has not only helped American economy, but also has helped China’ s agriculture development, promoted the culture and education exchange and the friendship between America and China.
With so much respect, I understood why he is a Clif & Gail Smart Professor of Missouri State University. I am proud of Dr. Qui as an American Chinese.
I do hope both of Dr. Qui and his wife Lisa and their child happier, luckier and more successful.
