This is my first gouache character and it took me over 40 hours to paint it. I didn’t know how to colour the character using gouache so I tried to colour it in the style of Chinese Freehand Brushwork… :-) I learned how to paint the character from the book “How to Paint Chinese Gongbei Characters” by Wang Meifang, but I completely changed the background and made some changes to the character too. I would like to find a way to combine Chinese and Western styles of painting…. :-)
