China's Culture Revolution had made almost all of the artists to be hurt for about 10 years, but, it did not change the love of them to the land of China. Many of them gave up their opportunities to go abroad after the tragedy was finished, but they kept staying in China and working for their motherland with the confidence that China would get better and more beautiful... The author of the lyrics -- Mr. Ren Zhiping just one of the musician artists, as same as him, the famous composer Mr.Shi Guangnan created the music for the lyrics and his wife before she would have a trip abroad.

Then, in the funeral of Mr. Shi Guangnan in 1990, this song was played according to his will...

I love the song not only for it beautiful tone, lyrics and story behind it, but also, for I had a same experience and I had given up my own opportunity to immigrate to a Western country years ago. As a Chinese lady who I had experienced whole of process of the Culture Revolution and Reform and Opening of China, I wish to work for my motherland before I retire and to help her as one of her daughters... :-)

First time I learned to sing the song in 2006, since then, I had been wishing to translate it and sung it in English. But, it seemed like too difficult for me.

I am lucky enough that the learning in the US, has given me courage to do it. So, I did it.

Even though I had to work on it for about 10 hours on my Saturday so that I forgot eating anything before I finished my translation, singing and recording, I am really happy that I have felt that my English and singing are improving during the process. Another good feeling is that the singing is helping me getting healthier, too.

I do hope that my effort will be some help to you to learn Chinese and to know about Chinese culture.

Meanwhile, I wish the beautiful music and my singing will bring you an enjoyment with a big smile.

MAIN MEANING OF THE SONG

I deeply love you,
the passionate land.
On the path I have gone,
there're flowers' smell & birds' songs;
On the field I have cultivated,
there're the golden and the green.
How can I leave from
]the mountains & rivers,
Ah ... ah...
ah...ah...
I embrace the poplar by the village,
as if I am embracing mama's body...

I deeply love you,
the passionate land.
I always suck the land mother's milk,
I daily accept the love of yours.
I go over the mountain roads and creeks,
Ah ...ah...
ah...ah....
I hold the soil of my hometown,
As if I am holding the hope and dreams.

I deeply love you,
the passionate land, land, land.
