LISTEN TO SHIRLEY SINGING THE SONG
Tonight, I had my vocal music lesson and I learned a new Chinese (Jiangxi) folk song Ying Shan Hong ? Azalea
This song is from a Chinese movie Glittery Red Star that was made in 1974. This movie told a story on the road of the Long March of the Red Army in Chinese modern history.
On the road of the Long March, a woman Red Army soldier and her young boy were left in a village, her husband gave his son a pentagonal red star and he went away with the army. Then, the enemy came back. For protecting the local farmers, the woman Red Army was died... The young boy grew up during the process and became a young little soldier...
There are 3 songs in this movie, Yin Shan Hong -- Azalea is one of them. It was sung twice, the first time it was sung by the mother for her son, to look forward to the Red Army and the father of the young boy -- her husband to come back. The second time, when she was fired and dead by the enemy...
I do like this song for its tone and lyrics.
There is much music and many songs about Long March in China. I have introduced one of them for you already, here is the link and hope it will be a little bit help to you to know something about this history.
