This week my new vocal music teacher has been away on business, so I taught myself a new Chinese song and I reviewed this Italian song.
This is the first Italian song that I learned, but I have not yet mastered it because of the many semitones and difficult to pronounce letter r's in it; I felt it too difficult to sing. However, it is a song that every student of vocal music must learn, and I am the sort of person who enjoys learning something new every day, and I found the more sing it, the more I enjoy it for its very special and different tone from that of Chinese songs. For these reasons I practised the song as soon as I came back from the office at noon on Saturday and then for almost the whole of the afternoon and evening. I then spent 8 hours on Sunday practising and recording this song. I finally recorded the song in Italian, English and Chinese.
Usually, my teacher just teaches me to sing each song in Italian, I teach myself to sing the songs in English and in Chinese. It is not easy to do that and I am glad that I have a big room where I can learn alone. Even though I know there are many problems in my singing, I finally completed it independently after singing and recording it at least 60 times. I am happy with myself and I wish to give my teacher a nice surprise. :-)
Do you know? My teacher has been encouraging me to think about becoming a graduate student in Music while she researches it at her Alma Mater - Shanghai Music College. I am thinking that maybe I will be simultaneously a graduate student of painting and of music somewhere soon after I retire? : -)
This song is a slow one and it is easy to listen to. I do hope my efforts will be a little help to you in learning Chinese and in improving your Chinese listening level.

LYRIC IN ITALIAN
Amarilli, Mia Bella
by Giulio Caccini (1545-1614)
Amarilli, mia bella, Non credi, o del mio cor dolce desio, D'esser tu l'amor mio? Credilo pur: e se timor t'assale, Dubitar non ti vale. Aprimi il petto e vedrai scritto in core: Amarilli, Amarilli, Amarailli 竪 il mio amore. Amarailli, 竪 il mio amore.
MAIN MEANING OF THE SONG
Amarilli, my dear one, Doubt not my loving heart, you most adored. You alone my beloved. Do but believe, for if dark fear assail you, Take my arrow, I pray you, Open my bosom, see all engrave before you, Amarilli, Amarilli, Amarilli, I adore you.
Do but believe, for if dark fear assail you, Love alone will not fail you. Here on my bosom see all engrave before you, Amarilli, Amarilli, Amarilli, I adore you.
Amarilli, I adore you...
