Hi,Dear Friends
How are you? Did you have a good week? I do hope everything is well with you and had an easy weekend.
Time is flying and 2006 will pass soon. This is really a week with meetings for me. Except holding the daily manager's meetings, on Tuesday afternoon, I made a work report with 53 pages and on Saturday afternoon, I attended another manager's meeting to summary our work in 2006 and to discuss the work in 2007 and to hear the opinions of all of the managers. This is just an oral summary and every manager must give a work summary and the work plan for the New Year before the 15th of December.
Meanwhile I am still working on my researching report and I have been working in my office for at least half a day every weekend since June.
This morning, before I wanted to go out of my house to go to work in the company, I could not use the gassystem in my washroom. I just realized that the Gas Company would come today to fix a new system for the residents. So, I stayed home and around 8:30am, a worker came in to change something and updated the gas system from coal gas to natural gas!
When the repairer was working on the system, I was thinking of so many things. When I went to the university in 1978, almost all of the people were using coal. Then, in 1986, when my son was born, my coal stove was changed to be coal gas system in Wuxi City. Then, in 1991, when I came to Shenzhen, nobody was using coal anymore and all the residents were using here gas now, changed from gas pitcher to pipeline gas, using natural gas. Every thing is getting better and better, our lives as general Chinese are getting easier and easier, convenient more and more. Food and cooking has changed to be the cheapest thing in our daily life. I do have the feeling at home that I have finally returned into the city.
Do you enjoy your life in your city? Do you have a feeling at home that you finally have returned into your own city?

Shirley Created Art --Chinese Gongbi--023: A Song of Spring
I worked on this picture for about 2 months, over 110 hours. I did not have much free time. I just painted it in my lunch time and in the night time. As soon as I came back home from my work, I painted and changed my mind from company work on art. When I was painting, I did feel calm and peaceful as I am doing something very comfortable and relaxed to myself. Anyway, when I was painting I thought of my researching report quietly or I heard some TV program or music. I do enjoy the process to create. Straight a new picture has jumped into my mind. Can you guess what I am painting soon? This picture was painted on a piece of silk. It has not been attached on some hard broad or some hard paper yet. So there are a little bit of crinkles on it now. Do you enjoy this picture?

Shirley Created Art--Chinese Xieyi -- 0108: Autumn Night
After learning to paint birds that are sitting or standing, my teacher asked me to paint more flying birds and more plants. I coloured the sky and the water partly after my teacher left from the lesson because I had to wait till the other color was dry. Then I could work on the next step. My teacher gave me 90 marks before I coloured the background. I guess if he had looked at my colours on the background and the water, he would maybe reduce my marks to be 80, because the color was too dark indeed. Also I feel that my flying birds just look like some flying fish. How do you think of this picture? Do you enjoy it?

Shirly Sung China (North) Folk Song--041: Whom Are You Struggle For?
This song was created in 1998, when China met the biggest flood by Yangtse River in the Chinese history, thousands and thousands Chinese soldiers rushed on the most dangerous places to work and to protect the people's lives and possessions with their own lives. I was touched by the lyrics of the song and the great Chinese soldiers about whom were sung in the song. Also my teacher taught me how to keep on smiling when I was singing. Now I realise that to keep on smiling is not only for keeping a beautiful expression, it is also helping the singer to keep his/her face muscles on a right place and helping the voice with more clarity and beautifully. I do hope that you enjoy it.

Chinese Classical Poem 0069 & Shirley Created Music-0059: Song Meng Haoran Zhi Guangling -- A Farewell Song to Meng Haoran at Yellow Crane Tower
Tang Dynasty (A.D.618 -907) poet Li Bai is my favorite poet. His poems have been affecting Chinese people since his own times until now. Every time, when I want to read and learn a classical poem, first of all, I think of Li Bai. This is a poem about sending an old friend off. This is one of his most famous poems. Many Chinese can recite it because it has been chosen into the text book of the elementary school. With a very simple language, it has expressed a deep feeling of the poet to his friend. As usual, I have written a piece of music to match it and hope you enjoy it. I do hope that my effort will be a little bit help to your Chinese learning and to learn the Chinese culture.
