The 42nd Friendly Greeting From Shirley, China, Sun, June 18, 2006

Hi,Dear Friends
How are you? Is everything well with you? I do hope you are well and have a good weekend.
This is really a busy week. I have done so much work in the company. Also, I have done a lot of things in my free time ? keep going to the Church, to buy some art and music books, to paint, to play piano, to create new music, to ask someone to clean my air-conditions and to meet some friends to help a young girl who is 22 years old to find an opportunity to continue her study to take a master degree in a Hong Kong university… So that when I am writing this newsletter, I do not know what I should write and where I should start…
Anyway, a biggest improvement in my mind is that I am learning to do my best to control my own emotion. I am thinking if I would like to be a real artist, then, I have to learn to have an ability to keep a peaceful heart to work and live no matter what will happen to me. A real artist should be the person who is able to bring his/her readers, listeners something happy and positive, try to show the others with a delight emotion, positive feeling with many smiles instead of affecting the others with a sad, negative feelings or emotion, even though she/he itself is suffering pain or sadness.
So, in last two weeks, instead of putting something I have made, but too sad things on the web site, I tried to sing, to paint and to play something with a delight and positive emotion for my web site… Even though that is really not easy to do… I do think that an emotion can be catching, an positive and happy art works can bring the other a good and happy emotion, otherwise, it is opposite. Do you think so?
An interesting thing is that I have been attracted by the beautiful Church music. I did find it sounds very simple, but, it has a very especial taste, makes me feel peaceful and comfortable, especially when I was singing with so many people who were full of the 4 floors with the triangle piano. So, I have bought 3 Church music books and I do feel that I should learn something new from it …
How is your feeling to the Church music? Do you enjoy it?

Chinese Xieyi--080(Flower and Bird): Flowers From the Deep Mountains
My teacher was interested in what I created on my 79th Chinese Xieyi picture and he hoped me to keep painting this kind of pictures for a while, set up my own style... :-) I do feel that along with the learning, especially after I started to learn the painting of landscape, a new window has been opened for me. I really want to move my bird and flower painting into a bigger background of the landscape to create a new and deep and far away art result... Do you agree with my idea?

Shirley Sung Chinese (Shandong) Folk Song--0024: Who Do Not Say My Hometown Is Good?
I had prepared a popular song according to my vocal music teacher's arrangement last week. However, when her piano was sounding with a very sad tone, I changed my thoughts and wanted to sing another Chinese folk with a delight emotion. What I wanted to do is to bring you something full of the Chinese characters with a delight and positive emotion. That is a movie song with a strong Shandong local color, I do enjoy its special Shandong folk music and hope you my singing can bring you a big smile and a little Chinese folk breath...

Chinese Classical Poem--0044 & Shirley Created Music-0033: Feng -- Wind
I do think that anything has two sides. The fact that I had not created any music to match Chinese classical poems for 3 weeks is really a bad thing. But, maybe just for the stopping. I suddenly feel that it has changed easier for me to create a short music to match a little poem. This week I have written a little music quickly to match the little poem that is with 4 sentences to write out 4 kinds of features and characters of wind. Hope my Chinese classical poem comment, music and singing have a little bit help to you to know more about Chinese culture and language…
