Art and Humanities Colleagues~
TGIF! I hope your first three weeks of the semester (or your first week of Late Start class) has gone well!
I'm attaching our flyer/poster for FEBRUARY Art Walk. We are hosting guest artist, Shirley Yiping Zhang, who has proven to be quite an extraordinary woman! We will have over 80 of her traditional style Chinese paintings hanging (most of which are over 5' long vertically), and each painting is accompanied by a traditional Chinese poem that she has translated into English AND each poem has original music that she composed. Shirley explained to me that all traditional Chinese poetry could be sung and she is reviving this ancient tradition. She will be singing a few of the poem/paintings on Art Walk night. In the 3rd floor Gillioz Fine Art department, we will also have a room set up where Shirley will be performing live Chinese painting demonstrations in which guests can create their own artwork! It is going to be an awesome night of Chinese culture and fine arts, just in time to celebrate the Chinese New Year 2014, Year of the Horse!
Artist Shirley Yiping Zhang has also volunteered to serve as a guest presenter/Teaching Artist for OTC Art and Humanities instructors and their classes during the month of February. Shirley’s presentation would include history and techniques on Chinese painting, poems, language, and music. If you are interested in taking her up on this generous offer, let me know and we can coordinate your class’s presentation time!
Have a wonderful weekend and thank you for sharing your energy, spirit, and passion for the Arts and Humanities with your students! Every day, you inspire.
Peace, Kat
