Hi,Dear Friends
How are you? Have you had a good week? I do hope that everything is doing well with you and you are enjoying your weekend.
On my side, except offering a yearly financial support to a middle school in the poorest area in Gansu Province, this Tuesday, our company organized a donation to plant trees in Inner ?Mongolia, to block the sandstorm in the north of China. As one of enterprise’s social responsibilities, we have kept doing this for 8 years. We made the donation from our salary. Instead of forcing anyone, as usual, the members of top management did that first according to our own principle that is not written out -- The higher position, the more money to donate. Mine is listed on No. 4, matches my position. Until now, about 500 employees have joined us, the name list of donation has reached 17 pages...
On Thursday, an American delegation visited us and last Wednesday, 40 leaders from the local government came to our company. After working hard for 8 years, our company has become one of the window enterprises and key software companies of Shenzhen City.
Along with signing the yearly contracts between every department manager and the company, we have canceled 2 departments and found a new research department. The latter will aim at the goal to develop our company to be a first-class enterprise, to work on the company strategies; business models; innovation; incentive mechanism; general manager’s reports, documents of the board of directors, the newest information and so on. Except appointing a department manager and some employees for it, we will also employ someone new to join us.
I will lead the company’s research work, while to assist my boss to work on a joint-venture company by both of an American company and our company.
I like the work arrangement. I am smiling for the interesting coincidence ? I had written my goal in the statement of applying the study abroad ? to found a research center for the company after I come back. When I almost forgot what I had written, a new researching organization has been there ? Funny, but, a true example that opportunity always belongs to the people who are prepared. Right?
In my inter-art and cross-culture learning field, my last greeting letters have gotten many responding. At least 2 friends wished to get a CD of my songs. At least 4 friends responded my opinion “the simpler, the better” via showing me an American idiom "KISS ? to keep it simple and stupid”. Many friends agreed with my view "everyone is manager", some friends thought I was totally wrong.
I appreciate all of the friends who have responded me. It has helped me to know the meaning of my studying, thinking and communication via the little web site.
I think, “The simple, the better” is not only the issue of language. It is often a summary base on the long-term study, research, includes much experience and lessons. Behind the simple of surface, is something complex and not simple. Many times, a simple theory or principle is not easy to practise.
In the simple 8 words that my music professor Mr. Meng taught me in my first lesson, includes his researching, exploring and teaching experience for 30 years. It is not simple to master at all, maybe needs a student to learn for whole of his/her life.
Saturday night, in my 5th lesson, Mr. Meng taught me some new “simple” points: To hang up on your nose, to withstand on your diaphragm, to empty middle.
It made me suddenly think of the similar words “to pin your nose, to keep the position in my mouth, to make the breath drop down” by my first music teacher Ms. Ma in 2002 or 2003. Wow! My God! I had learned the similar “Simple” principles 7 years ago, but, I did not really understand it and practise it then. Along with the new knowledge more and more in my mind, I have forgotten the basic points, so that Mr. Meng told me that I made the simple things too complex because I “had learned too much”. A “simple” point today, is a too complex problem 7 years ago.
With a totally new feeling, I had my Saturday music lesson carefully. I felt so tired and even ache on my waist and the belly around of the diaphragm. Mr. Meng told me that was the best feeling, it meant I had made a good job.
I am thinking, truth is always simple, behind the truth is numerous complex situations, long-term hard exploring and much difficult work.
To find a way to shorten the exploring time, to reduce the exploring process, to help an organization or an individual to make fewer mistakes and to go fewer detours, maybe one of the duties of a manager?
Do you agree with me? What is your opinion on this topic?
