The 14th Friendly Greeting From Shirley, China, Sun, Nov 20, 2005

Hi,Dear Friends
How are you? Is everything well with you? I do hope you are well and you are enjoying your weekend.
The biggest thing in my free time this week is that I started my lesson on Midi by a music company and I ordered a YAMAHA keyboard with 88 keys as my tool to make digital music. Even though there is a professional keyboard for Midi, anyway, it can not sound and it must connect to a computer to sound, so, I chose a YAMAHA keyboard for it has the best sound and richest tones and I wanted to have an " electronic band". :-)
I am very excited for I am entering a new field to learn an advanced technology to create and to transmit music with a computer via digital way and I will have an "electronic band" in the near future. However, I also know it is not an easy thing to master it, because Midi is in fact a Musical Instrument Digital Interface. To master the softer ware is not difficult; to master the way to create music is not easy. So, I will have a very long and hard road to go on my music learning.
This week, I also tried to start a new topic for you on the web site ? to talk something a bout Chinese movie. I do hope you are interested in it . :-)
Note: I am sorry that I forgot saving my file that I had corrected before sending my last message to you, so that there were some wrong words in it, so, I have corrected them and send it once more.I do hope that I have not made any trouble for you.

Chinese Gongbi -- 012(Flower, Bird & Character): Let Us Go Flying!
First time,I painted a chrysanthemum with Chinese Gong Bi style. My teacher was proud of my progress for chrysanthemum is the most difficult flower to paint. My teacher was satisfy with my draft, but pointed that my birds should not on the same line. After finishing the picture, I found that I had made a big mistake. I should color the slope part with more transparent colors and I should not color one of my flowers with too bright color as well. :- )

China (Yunnan)Folk Song--012: Xiao He Tang Shui -- A Gantle Stream
In Chinese, the words "elder brother" have 3 meanings. It means a real brother of a person. Also, it is used to call an elder person who is not our real brother, such as an elder colleague or an elder friend. In some areas, it is used between lovers. It is used to call a man with an affectionate feeling by his lover -- especially in some minority nationality areas, girls call their man friends or boyfriends to be "A Ge" -- "brothers", or "elder brothers". So, you have to be careful when a girl calls you "brother" or "elder brother" in some place, such as in Yunnan province. I tried to sing it in a very difficult English and hope it's not too bad. :-)

Chinese Classical Poem --0018: Du Hai River -- Cross Han River
We know that it is more we want to know something, it is more we feel nervous when we are closing the true fact. This poem just expresses a very completed psychology after a poet went through innumerable trials and hardships and finally came back his hometown, when he started to meet his neighbors, friends and colleagues, when he saw the smoke from kitchen chimneys from his village, he was afraid so that he did not dare to ask anyone and anything about his family that had lost news for a long time.As usual, I wrote a piece of music for it and hope you enjoy it.

What are you interested in this week? Do you care for the international oil price, the inflation level? Are you having a relaxed weekend and interested in a Chinese Gongfu movie? I have prepared 3 sentences for you and hope you are interested in them and feel easy from knowing something new from Eastern culture. :-)

All of us know Oscar, Anyway, do you know anything about China’s Oscar ?I heard this name from the most authoritative newspaper of China and it makes me think of a good suggestion from some friends that to open a column to introduce Chinese films. Yes, maybe it is also the best and most direct way for you to know Chinese cultures via a film. So, I tried to introduce China's film from the most important reward ? China’s Oscar . Hope you enjoy it.
