The 12nd Friendly Greeting From Shirley, China, Sat, Nov 12, 2005

Hi,Dear Friends

How are you? Is everything well with you this week?

This week, except the daily working in the company and continued to paint chrysanthemums and bird with brushes and colors directly, first time, I am working on a picture of chrysanthemums with Chinese Gongbi style and I will complete it in 2 weeks. First time, I learned to write a literature story in English and Chinese. First time, I will meet a MIDI expert and musician to start my new music lesson to compose at piano and computer from tomorrow.

Also, I have been thinking the questions from some friends: Why Chinese like chrysanthemum? Why yellow is not a bad symbolization in Chinese cultures? How to reform the column of the Friends'Works, to publish some wonderful works from friends and to help more people who need helping?.

So, I worked something below and hope you enjoy it and to bring you a big and delight smile:

Chinese Xieyi--054(Flower & Bird): A Gentleman Of Flowers-- Mum 03
A friend asked me why I have painted chrysanthemums for many days? Except for this is the turn of it for me to learn to paint it, the second reason it is the season to enjoy mums for Chinese and many mum exhibitions here or there. The most important reason is that mum is called a gentleman in the flowers in Chinese culture. We love its quality that blooms in the cool season when most of the flowers have gone. Just like a gentleman who keeps his honest quality and does never lower his head under the pressure and difficulties. It can be showed as a flower, be eaten as a food, be drunk as a tea, and be used as a traditional medicine…
Chinese Art Song--005: Huang Shui Yao-- Yellow Water Ballad
Every nation has his own mother river. The Yellow River is the cradles of China. For Chinese, to sing the Yellow River just means to sing the Chinese nation, to protect the Yellow River just means to protect China. So, during the II World War, a famous Chinese poet Mr. Guang Weiran(1913 - 2002) and Mr. Xian Xinghai(1905-1945) cooperated to create a famous The Yellow River Chorus, to express the decision of Chinese to protect the country. I admire the music by Mr. Xian Xinghai and more admire he had given up his good life in Paris and came back to the motherland when it was suffering the tribulation. I think, to learn to sing a song is important, to learn to be a perfect person from a great musician is more important for me as a student on music. Right?
Chinese Classical Poem -- 0017:Shan Xing -- Travel In A Mountain
In Chinese cultures, yellow symbolize honor and red symbolized happiness and lucky. Yellow could only be used by an emperor, empress and the people who were given the right by an emperor as the highest reward. That is why, you can see all of the Chinese emperors and empress were in the yellow clothes in a movie and all of the brides dressed in a red clothes and the bridegroom wore a red flower in a traditional Chinese wedding. Fall is the yellow and read season for the harvest and the leaves. I do hope the poem Shan Xing will bring you an enjoyment of red colors.
Shirley's Essays: Lives - 006: A Little Thing-- Yi Jian Xiao Shi (In English and Chinese)
Last Friday, I was touched by a little thing so that I could not help to write a short story for a common Chinese woman. This is also a part of the reasons that I wrote my 11st newsletter to thank the friends who have helped me last week. I completed the short story on Tuesday and I wanted to write it as a literature works in English and Chinese first time. I am not sure whether I did well as I had wished. I do hope to get your comments and directions. Meanwhile I hope it can help you to improve your Chinese level. :- )
Chinese in Current Affairs - 008:How to Say "ECB Banchmark Rate -- Textile Trade -- Birds Flu"
Except the gasoline price, a sport game, what is your most interested in this week? Maybe the European Central Bank keeps its interest rate; the textile trade agreement between the United States and China and the birds flu are affecting your daily work or life? I have edited three sentences about them, hope it's helpful to your Chinese learning…

I am just a learner on art, music, English and the work on the web site. Anyway, I would like to do a little bit things with what I have learned to make this little web site to be an Electronic Bridge Of Culture Exchange, Friendship, and Language Learning. I am so lucky that I have got many good help from many friends, below are some of good English lessons and cultures and traditions from friends. I do hope you enjoy them:

English Lesson 007: One,Two,Three Miles by Mr. Jim Broadbent (Canada)
English Lesson 005: Mr. Miss And So On By Mr.Wilson (New Zealand)
English Lesson --002: Translation of Ao Li Yi Lan by Mike J.(Britain)
Custom & Trandition From The other Culture--002: Halloween By Mr. Michael F. G (U.S.A.)
Custom & Trandition From The other Culture--001: Persian Calendar & Chinese Shenxiao By Mr. Ali Amili (Iran)
