Love Is Just Given -- Shirley's 99th Friendly Greeting--Sun, Aug 5, 2007

Hi,Dear Friends

How are you? I do hope that you are well and have a easy and relaxed weekend.

I felt a little bit difficult to choose a topic, when I started this letter, until I thought of the 10 lovingness embassies that our company has chosen to support a high school in a poorest area in the West of China. A topic jumped into my mind: Love Is Just Given.

For improving the company’s work efficiency, 160 PC's have retired. We sold them to the colleagues and gave the money to one of the best schools in Huining County of Shannxi Province.

Some TV photographers went there and took back a special telefilm : In the school, most of students have only about 5 RMB (less than 1 USD) each day. Some of them just take a big cake from home on the weekend and eat a piece of it from Monday to Friday. Instead of vegetable and meat, sauce is often their dish. However, just in the hard life environment, they have created the best achievement. As the best high school there, it has sent about 5000 students into the universities. About 100 of them have taken their master degrees or doctoral degrees. All of us wept for the touched stories when we watched it. The general manager asked us to support the school via send some young people as our lovingness embassies there regularly to help the children with our love to them.

Yes, China is a nation that admires the love to a country, family, friends and lover. We keep our traditional culture: Lao Wu Lao, Yi Ji Ren Zhi Lao, You Wu You, Yi Ji Ren Zhi You. That means to love our own parents, then to extend the love to the other's parents; to love our own children, then to extend the love to the other's children. As lucky Shenzhen people, who are working and living in the first special economy zone as a window and experimentation place of China to learn the other countries with a special economic policy, Shenzhen has changed to be the richest city in China and its GDP is almost as Singapore within the short 26 years. It is all of the Chinese people and our family, friends and lovers are supporting us.

So, we often feel the responsibilities to the country, family, friends and lovers in the inland. That is why, most of Shenzhen people give a part of their income to their family. Many of the Shenzhen companies chip in money to support the others in the poor places.

As a corporation, our company does that twice a year. As a hero, Mr. Cong Fei , gave his life to the children in the poor area in Guizhou Province. As an individual, I gave my 6 digit author's remuneration to my assistants and colleagues who needed help. I bought all of the electrical appliances for my parents before I had that myself. I paid for my young sister’s apartment and I (with my younger brother) bought a new apartment for our parents, before I bought mine. Also, I have supported and helped my cleaning lady for 7 years...

We do all of these as a natural thing and our obligation willingly. After all, Love is one of our cultures. Love Is Just Given.

What is your understanding about love? Do you agree with me?

Shirley Created Combined Art -- 008: Intone A Willow in the Spring Wind
I created this picture to match a Chinese classical poem. I would like to express the breath of the spring with flowers, willow and song of the birds. Especially I wanted to express the power of the tender spring wind, just like a pair of scissors, it has tailored the beautiful thin leaves for the willow and made it to be dressed up with a suit of jade clothing. I imagined and designed the picture in my mind on Tuesday. I started it on Wednesday night and completed it on Thursday night. I enjoy the feeling to create a picture with my brushes and colors directly instead of making a pencil draft. That makes me feel free and easy to express my thoughts and feelings, to enjoy the double peaceful in my heart and in the nights. Anyway, I have found that the flower part seems like being too clean and I have forgotten something on the flowers too. What is that? Can you find it?

Bilingual Song--002: Shirley Sings A Chinese Art Song--0026 "The Road of My Hometown" in English & Chinese
This song expresses a deep love of a traveler to his/her hometown. I translated it into English and sang it bilingual. It was difficult for me to translate, to sing in English and to play an instrument at the same time. But, I kept learning to do that for I believe it is a good way for you to learn Chinese via improving your aural comprehension. So, I learned its Chinese part from my two vocal music teachers, Saturday night and Sunday morning. I translated and sang it in English and played the music by myself. I feel, after learning for 4 years, I have had the ability to create a picture. But, within the same time, I have not really mastered the way to sing well yet. So, I cherish the opportunity to learn from my second vocal music teacher even though I have to drive for a long time in the early Sunday morning.

Chinese Classical Poem 0090(By He Zhizhang) & Shirley Created Music 080--01: Yong Liu -- Intone A Willow
Willow is one of the beautiful plants in the spring. So, it is something to be admired by the artists of language, painting and music. This poem is famous because of its two lines: Bu zhi xiye shui zai chu, er yue chunfeng si jiandao. That means "I wonder who has tailored the thin leaves, the spring wind in February is just like a pair of scissors". I first time introduced it and created a piece of music to match it in October 2005. Then, I had no a database to save the new words and the music sounds like a little bit lengthiness. So, this weekend, I have created a picture for it, written calligraphy, re-created the music, re-sang and re-played it. I do hope all of things that I have done will be a little bit help to you to learn Chinese culture and language.

Shirley's 21st Chinese Running Regular Calligraphy: Yong Liu -- Intone A Willow
This is my 21st Chinese calligraphy and the 8th one that I have written on my new picture that I have created for a Chinese classical poem. As an exploring, I wanted to write it with some special color, but, it was too light. So, I changed back with black Chinese ink. So, you can see the colors of the first two lines are different from the other lines.

I am just a learner on art, music, English and the work on the web site in my free time. Anyway, I would really like to do a little bit things with what I have learned to make this little web site to be An Electronic Bridge Of Culture Exchange, Friendship and Language Learning. During the process to help the others and to improve myself.

I do appreciate your understanding, directions and supports. I do hope to get your great help continuously now and in the coming time...
