A Loss May Turn Out to be A Gain -- Shirley's 98th Friendly Greeting--Sun,July 30, 2007

Hi,Dear Friends
How are you? I do hope that you are well and have a easy and relaxed weekend.
This week, except daily jobs, my two project groups on listed company's industry sort and company disaster backup systems are pushed forward according to the plans. I am working on a new job of project management. This year, via developing inside and entrusting outside, we will complete about 20 projects basic on TV, digital TV, web sites, cell phone and magazine. We are thinking of fixing a system to manage them. Also, I have pushed the departments of media, marketing and design to arrive at an agreement on our advertisement business.
I feel lucky that I am requested to attend the daily department manager meeting, as the only company manager. It not only asks me to read the most important information in the world, but also, it helps me to know the company business overview, to find problems and to adjust or resolve them at the first time. It is really a quite valued opportunity to help me to learn something new and to improve my management ability every day.
A good news is that our mother company has approved our next stratagem cooperation plan with the American company that we have worked with. A revolutionary reform will be started in the company and I will be one of the members to share it soon.
The new situation in the company will make me busier and the dream to attend 'the class of English language and literature' will not be true. Anyway, I am not sad at all. Just like a Chinese Idiom said: "San Weng Shi Ma, Yan Zhi Fei Fu?" It said that an old man, who was living on the frontier fortress, lost one of his horses, people came to comfort him, but he said, “Who knows whether it is a good thing?”. Days later, this horse came back to him with another better horse. Our Chinese use this story to say, "A Loss May Turn out to be a Gain". A bad thing can become a good thing, a lost in the short time, can bring a benefit.
It is a pity to give up a learning opportunity. It is a good thing to take back more free time for 2 years. It is the same that I gave up the opportunities to go to the U.S., to learn International Business Management for 2 years has brought me an opportunity to work with an American company right now, it makes me to have more time to learn art, music and so on.
I am focusing myself on the Chinese language field and to make my learning of art, music, calligraphy and culture to service it as tools or background. Try to create something unique with my own knowledge copy rights. This week, I have reformed my Music Column and I have opened a new column: Chinese Song in English or Bilingual Song for it. I would like to make the lyrics of modern Chinese song to be a support of the other Chinese Language Columns, to help people to improve their listening level. Maybe I was major in Chinese language for 5 years and taught it for 9 years, I do feel relaxed as a rest when I am working on it. Maybe someday, when I have retired, I should become a new Chinese teacher with some new styles that I have explored.
Do you think a loss may turn out to be a gain? Do you enjoy my new idea and exploration.

Shirley Created Combined Art -- 007: What Lovely Red Leaves!
It is a long time that I was not interested in Chinese landscape painting. Until October 2006, I came back from Zhang Jia Jie, I started to be interested in it and I started to buy some art books of landscape. But, I just really started to create my own landscape painting recently. Anyway, maybe for I enjoy birds too much, so that I could not help to paint two birds on my red leaves. I wanted them to speak each other "See, what lovely read leaves they are!" After I had completed it, I just realized that I should paint the maple leaves to match the classical poem that I had wanted to match. Maybe, someday, when I am in the emotion, I will re-paint it with some maple leaves? How do you think of this picture? Do you enjoy it?

Shirley Created Art -- Chinese Xieyi 0148: Sweet Smell
It was for about 2 weeks, that my teacher has not offered me an art lesson since I had been traveling. But I created 3 pictures to match my classical poems and my teacher gave me 90, 80 and 85 marks. Maybe for I have painted too many pictures with a colored background, I do feel cleaning to paint a Chinese Xieyi on a piece of white paper and I do hope that you enjoy it.

Chinese Classical Poem --0017 (By Du Mu) & Shirley Created Music-008 :Shan Xing -- Travel In A Mountain
Since I introduced this poem in July, 2005 for the first time, 2 years has past. Then, I had not thought to create a piece of music to match it yet. Then in November, 2005, I created my 8th piece of music for it, but I had not any database to deal with the new words repeating and I had not thought to combine painting, calligraphy and the other art style to match it. So, this Sunday, when I re-edited it, I kept the original singing and recording as I did in 2005. I think, this is a process of thinking and creating, they will help me to continue my exploring and to remain me to keep a hard working with thinking, creating. I really hope that you enjoy what I have done and it can be a little bit help to you to know more about Chinese culture and language.
