A Smiling Working Holiday-- Shirley's 88th Friendly Greeting-- Mon, May 7, 2007

Hi,Dear Friends

How are you? Have you had a good week? I do hope that you are well and have a relaxed Weekend.

May 1 to May 7 is a Chinese national holiday. It is funny that I am busier in the holiday than I was in my business days. I have been working on my new cooperated project in my holiday because it is our cooperators business day. For making one of my assistants to go back to his hometown to reunite with his family, I let the other assistant having more time to be with his young baby who is only 6 months and his wife and mother in law together for several days. I have been working in my office for 7 days and I entered into my office 7:30am or 6:45am for I wished our cooperators can leave for homes earlier for our time difference is 12 hours.

It is not hard for me to work on the project itself. It was difficult to organize people to work in the holiday for most of them have left to there home to reunite with their family in the other places or somewhere else in the city. Telephone calls has changed to be my main working tools and sometimes I felt my throat pain for I had talked too much. Meanwhile, I have found some of our business processes and organization styles have to be adjusted as soon as possible. So, I am spending much time dealing with some relationships between the departments or different business while I am spending more time to think and to write some proposals for improving our work efficiency and for saving the cost.

Instead of our colleagues, we employed someone temporarily to work for us. We paid them by the piece. Can you imagine? Until May 4, one of the groups had completed 140% of their duty that should be finished on May 7. Another group had completed their duty for 5 days within 3 days relied on a new technology. So, I decided to stop their work overtime ahead for 3 days.

Even though I made a mistake to send something wrong to our cooperator, the main work has been completed with a good way. The CEO and the delegate of the cooperated company have written to us, to admire our work in the holiday time from the other side of the Ocean.

I am really tired on my body so that I fell asleep in my washroom once. But, I am really delighted in my heart. For I have felt the value of my work and I feel good for I am working in a wonderful team.

What touched me is that our working partners are some very nice people. They are not only working hard, even on their Saturday nights, but also they are very tolerant and are considerate of us, to call us at our day time, to have a telephone conference at our business time, to connect us later on the weekends. Things were convenient for us in our business time, but that was their night or weekend time. The wonderful impression is that from their CEO to their technology people, they are all wholehearted to work on the cooperated project and they are all treating us with a very friendly and kind style.

So, since April 24 until now, in the short cooperated working, I do feel that I have learned a lot from them and I have seen many weaknesses on our side. So, I have written 2 weekly summaries and 1 proposal and a syllabus of a researching report while I was working on many things, to suggest the company to reform and improve our own work.

How about your work? Do you often see something better from your cooperators? Do you often think of reforming and improving your work?

Shirley Created Art -- Gouache--0101: A Beauty
Instead of painting a Gouache I have been painting Chinese Gongbi and Chinese Xieyi for a while. Anyway, when I saw a little photo from a good friend, I had a wish to paint a picture for it. But, I had no time to do that until this friend told me that this house would be sold after it has been re-decorated. It is really a little bit pity to sell a such beautiful house. So, I decided to paint it and to keep its original feature. I really enjoy the red trees nearby and the yellow trees far away, the green grassplot and the little flowers around it. I had drafted it for a long time, because I had not much free time. Then I colored it with many short times including my lunch time. Finally, I completed it on April 17 or 23? I can not remember what day. How do you think of this picture? Do you enjoy it?

Shirly Sung China Folk Song--054:The Moon in the Mid-Autumn Festival
Because of the holiday, I did not remember which day is Saturday so that I asked my vocal music teacher to have a lesson for me Friday night. This is a famous Chinese folk song to admire some typical Chinese family style and an ideal social division of work in most of Chinese minds: men work out of their homes for the country and their families, women work at home to look after their parents, children and to support their husband's careers. I was smiling when I was singing it and I really hope that this song and my singing will bring you a big smile and a little bit thinking. Meanwhile, I do hope it is a little bit help you to improve your Chinese aural comprehension.

Chinese Classical Poem --0080 (By Du Fu) & Shirley Created Music-0070: Jiangnan Feng Li Guinian -- Meeting Li Guinan South of the Yangtse Rive
Have you experienced some situation, that you had parted with a good friend for some terrible reasons, and then you suddenly met him/her accidentally? What would you feel if you did? The little poem by Tang Dynasty (A. D. 618 ? A.D. 907 ) poet Du Fu (A.D.712 - A.D.770) just expresses a complex heart, after both of them escaped from the capital Changan because of the War for years and suddenly they met far away south of the Yangtze River. There was so much happiness and sadness, there was so much lucky and pity. With 4 sentences, this little poem has written out one or many different views. Just like a long Chinese painting that was made of many different little views. I had written a piece of music to match it days ago and I do hope that you enjoy it and it will be a little bit help to you to know more about Chinese culture and language.

Shirley Written Chinese Calligraphy -- Running Regular 011: Cai Lian Qu
It is funny that my original thought was to create a piece of new music for this poem. But, after I completed my writing, I just found that I had written some music to match it 11 months ago.
So, I just make the link of this poem below and hope it will help you to understand its Chinese meaning via my writing and singing. Anyway, I really feel that my singing level was too bad at that time. So, when I have time, I will certainly try to re-record it. Shirley Created Music For Chinese Classical Poem--018: A Song Of Picking Lotus On Sun, Jan 15, 2006

I am just a learner on art, music, English, French and the work on the web site in my free time. Anyway, I would really like to do a little bit things with what I have learned to make this little web site to be An Electronic Bridge Of Culture Exchange, Friendship and Language Learning. During the process to help the others and to improve myself.

I do appreciate your understanding, directions and supports. I do hope to get your great help continuously now and in the coming time...
