Researching, Working and Enjoying Life... Shirley's 85th Friendly Greeting -- Sun, April 15, 2007

Hi,Dear Friends

How are you? Have you had a good week? I do hope you are well and have a relaxed Weekend.

This week, on Monday, except daily work, I attended a conference to hear a report by an American company in our company. Then, I accepted an assignment to research a research report by the American company on Tuesday, to give my opinions to our company that whether we should have cooperation with them, what is the benefit and what is the risk of us if we do that. For knowing the importance and the responsibility of mine, as soon as I completed the other work, I worked on it carefully and I will complete it within about 2 weeks. It is not easy to research a research report with 270 pages. But, I enjoy learning some new views, opinions and theories in it. Many times, it reminds me of something that I have learned somewhere else. For example the book The World Is Flat, that I had read last year. And the book The Long Tail that I am reading now. Once more, I feel that opportunity always belongs to those people who pay attention to learn something new. The daily knowledge absorbing and accumulating is helping me to work on my new job with a comfortable style.

Meanwhile, I enjoy my daily work as well. To touch the latest information and theories, to use them on the company work and service for the industry and the society. To attend or hold meetings or discussions, to adjust our rules, processes and departments. To think, design and create something new, to push the company forward. Maybe just from next week, our news publishing will be lasted for 24 hours, our TV station will work for a longer time, our magazine will list the Chinese richest 500 people the 5th time... For us, the 88.45 million investors in the Chinese security market are our Gods and we have to do our best to work for them. We are just a group of common Chinese people, but, we would really like to bear our duties and responsibilities with the best style as our career. To work for the others, is just working for ourselves. Do you think so?

So, I am busy and tight, I am delighted and smiling. A hard working with an honest and responsible style is making me to wake up with a lot of hope every morning and to sleep with a stable and easy heart every night.

In the free time of the company, the training of Yoga, English and Chorus of our woman committee is going well and has got good responding. Even though I have no time to take part in them, I am happy that we have offered opportunities for our colleagues, not only women, but also men. I am also delight that my young colleagues have organized things quite well. I am confident that more and more people will join us. Can you imagine? There were 30 colleagues taking part in the Chorus this week and more people will join it next week. But, there were only 2 man colleagues. So, I am working on making more members of the Youth League to come. I am also thinking to invite the general/vice general managers to take part in us at some suitable time or occasions.

Do you enjoy your daily work and do you take part in any activities in your company in your free time? Are you often given some work provisionally? Do you enjoy it?

Shirley Created Art -- Chinese Xieyi 0132:Wow! Flowers Have Blossomed
It is the 3rd time that I worked on my long scroll. Along with the picture changing longer, my paint board is too small to work. So, a professional company will design and make a bigger paint board that is 3.6 meters length for me. In fact, when I paint a Gouache Painting, I use a paint board and an easel as most of painters do. When I paint a Chinese Xieyi or Gongbi painting, I have to work on a desk, for Chinese colors, just like colored water and it would flow if I used an easel. Also, the paper of Xieyi can be soaked by color. So, when I paint it, I have to use a piece of felt below my paper. A too wet Chinese painting can not be moved before it is dry. Once more, I got 90 marks. How do you see it? Do you enjoy it?

Shirley Sung Chinese Popular Song--011: The Immensity of Water and Mountains
After learning to sing Chinese folk & art songs for 4 years, I am interested in Chinese popular songs for its more free styles. Many of them have learned something from Western music. Many of them have absorbed much nutrition from Chinese traditional music, dramas and operas. I enjoy this song for its tone, rhythm and style with a strong taste of traditional Beijing opera. I do feel it has made a good job to combine the modern music and traditional styles together. So I asked my teacher to direct me to sing it in my vocal music lesson on Saturday night and hope you enjoy it and be a little bit help to you to improve your Chinese listening level.

Chinese Classical Poem --0082 (By Bai Juyi) & Shirley Created Music-0072: Mu Jiang Yin --Singing by a River at Dusk
Have you seen the view that a ray of sunset in a river made half of the water green as emerald and the other half red as ruby? Have you seen the landscape, that the sunset is still on the Western sky and the moon has risen on the Eastern heaven? I felt them in my mind because of a classical poem by Tang Dynasty (618 - 908) poet Bai Juyi (772―846). Maybe for also enjoying it, I created a piece of music to match it just for about 20 minutes and I have written a Chinese calligraphy for it, too. Anyway, I used a lot of time to record it and I do hope that my effort will be a little bit help to you to learn Chinese culture and to improve your Chinese language level.

Vocabulary In Chinese--017: New Words About Tax
This is the first year that Chinese government asks people who have a higher income to report their tax before March 31. It is a long time that individual’s tax affair was dealt with by his/her company and people just took salary that had been paid tax already. So, most Chinese did not know how to report and pay tax. I was just one of them and I did not know how much tax that I have paid and I should pay until 2 weeks ago. An accountant showed me and taught me what I would do. I am lucky that our accountant department has dealt with my tax for me already since the policy allows anyone to entrust the other to deal with this thing. So, this weekend, I would like to offer you some new vocabulary about tax and hope it is a little bit help to you to learn Chinese.

I am just a learner on art, music, English, French and the work on the web site in my free time. Anyway, I would really like to do a little bit things with what I have learned to make this little web site to be An Electronic Bridge Of Culture Exchange, Friendship and Language Learning. During the process to help the others and to improve myself.

I do appreciate your understanding, directions and supports. I do hope to get your great help continuously now and in the coming time...
