Hi friends, have you ever stayed somewhere that is far away from home? Did you miss your hometown? How did you express the longing in your heart for your hometown?

Now I would like to introduce a new Chinese classical poem which was written by Tang Dynasty (618 - 907) poet Zhang Jingzhong Bian Ci -- Lyrics of the Frontier. I enjoy this poem because it expresses the poet's feelings of missing his hometown in a very artistic style ? the poet compares the landscape of where he is with that of his hometown, one is in his eyeshot, the other is in his imagination ? Even though it is the same season, one is a view as if the end of winter and the other is just like early summer... :-)

As usual, I have written a piece of music to go with it.

I do hope that my commentary, music and singing will be a little help to you in your Chinese learning...

MAIN MEANING OF THE POEMLISTEN TO SHIRLEY PLAY & SING THE POEM

Lyrics of the Frontier

Spring has come so much later to Wuyuan City since ancient times,
there are no green leaves on the poplars in February yet.
Now, when the ice of the Yellow River starts to melt,
It is the time that flowers are fading in Changan City...
